Winter provides the only meaningful break, but it's a relative reduction rather than elimination. Warm spells in January and February regularly bring out activity, and populations can rebuild quickly when temperatures rise.

They are available at most hardware stores and are effective when used as directed.

Addressing drainage issues in the yard is a longer-term investment that pays off in mosquito reduction. If your yard has persistent low spots that hold water for more than a week after rain, addressing them through grading or French drain installation removes a major breeding source that professional treatment can't counteract on its own.
